Rural Ways Woodcraft.
Proprietors: Donna and David Faulkner.

Rural Ways Woodcraft is a woodcraft workshop and retail outlet based at Arreton Craft Village on the Isle of Wight. We opened to the Public on July the 29th 2002. The Proprietors originally qualified in conservation and habitat management. Whilst working in this field, we initially realised the potential of timbers that were surplus due to management procedures, including clearance of diseased trees. Rural Ways aim to source most of their timber on the Isle of Wight, and work closely with local tree surgeons and timber merchants to achieve this aim. We make a variety of products all from wood in a variety of sizes from small items such as key rings, coasters, candle holders and necklaces (these can easily be carried home, and are therefore suitable for travellers who come by coach) as well as larger items from dining suites, tables, garden furniture, bird tables and much more! We are also able to make many items to order, for example house signs. Rural Ways have undertaken a range of commissioned works for clients all over Britain and Europe, using either postal services or couriers. In our workshops, are team create items of beauty from local timbers that would otherwise have been destroyed. Each item is a unique, hand crafted creation that has a high quality finish, whether in wax, oil, or other preservation method. Rural Ways recognise our environmental responsibilities and intend to minimise our impact on the local and global environment, we have a environmental policy set up which we check six monthly to ensure that we keep these aims. We are proud to announce that because of this view on the environment, Rural Ways Woodcraft have been awarded GOLD Awards in the Green Island Sustainable Tourism Awards in 2004, 2005 and 2006. In addition we were runners up in the Green Business and Service categories of the Chamber of Commerce Awards for Excellence 2005.
